Mammography

Mammography screening is the most important step for early diagnosis of breast cancer, next to the BSE, or breast self-exam. It has warned of a possible cancerous tumor two years before the patient or doctor can usually find them. A low-dose system that relies on an x-ray system, it is painlessly used to exam breasts for the presence of breast cancer. The traditional mammography screening is one of the older x-ray systems, but has been enhanced with digital mammography and also computer-aided detection.

Digital mammography is also called "full-field digital mammography," or FFDM. It is a mammography system where the traditional s-ray film has been completely replaced by solid-state detectors. These detectors are similar to digital cameras, with electrical signals that produce images of the breast that can be seen on a computer screen, or printed on film that is similar to the conventional mammograms. Digital mammography education can bring highly successful and satisfying mammography jobs. Mammography continuing education and mammography education online are two areas today that can bring extra learning and improved any present knowledge a professional has. No matter how much education a person has in mammography, a continuing education in mammography always brings the latest research and update information and training that is available to improve the statistics on breast cancer.

The computer-aided detection systems, or CAD mammography, use a digitized mammography image—obtained from a conventional film mammogram or a mammogram that is digitally acquired. The computer software is especially made to search for any abnormality of density, mass, or calcification—this possibly may be cancerous, and highlights the particular area to alert the radiologist for further screening. Shadows in mammography screening have always played a big role in the detection of any abnormalities in a woman's breast, along with pattern of tissue density, to alert the radiologist of anything abnormal. Similar to a fingerprint, every woman's breast is different and usually comparisons between previous mammograms are recognized to see if any breast cancer is developing. Breast masses will appear on the mammogram f ilm as white regions, with fat appearing on it as a black region. The glands, tissue that connects, tumors or microcalcificaitons, and so on—appear as different levels of white on the mammogram film. One the mammogram has been taken, it is law that the results have to be sent or informed to the patient who took the mammogram.
