Chemotherapy
In chemotherapy, there is a wide assortment of individualized forms of breast cancer chemotherapy programs are available for many forms of chemotherapy breast cancer, especially breast cancer. Compared to radiation that treats cancerous cells in a localized area, chemotherapy for breast cancer treats cancerous cells that are rapidly dividing and cannot recover well from the chemotherapy to grow as fast.
Chemotherapy-breast cancer treatments are being tested, in order to be combined with drug therapy to maximize the cancerous struggle, hopefully to become the new standard for breast cancer chemotherapy treatment.
Breast cancer and chemotherapy can work together in cycles\monthly, weekly, or even on a daily basis. The time allowed to the patient between the cycles offers the patient time to heal. This is in comparison to the traditional methods of it that involved IVs, or injections in the veins, oral treatments or even topical applications. The new chemotherapy treatments involved more knowledge about normal and abnormal (cancer) cells or "targeted therapies." The side effects will be reduced in this manner, as the cancerous cells only will be targeted, leaving the normal cells alone. Some targeted therapy involves a list of breast cancer chemotherapy drugs such as trastuzumab (Herceptin), imatinib (Gleevec), or bevacizumab (Avastin).
The term adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer is a treatment given as a secondary therapy, combined with a primary therapy, to kill any possible spreading cancer cells--this is regardless whether there is detection of it or not. Those who apply it, have a better chance of preventing any recurrence, increasing their long-term survival rates. The primary therapy consists of lumpectomy, radiation therapy, or what they call "modified radical mastectomy." A new primary therapy just coming out is the "sentinel lymph node biopsy" or "sentinel node biopsy, with clinical trials in progress. The adjuvant therapy is the use of a combination of anti-cancer drugs vs a single anticancer drug, that are used for destroying cancer cells, and recent research has demonstrated that adjuvant chemotherapy therapy breast cancer has helped prevent the original cancer from returning.
Breast cancer and chemotherapy combinations before deciding on a mastectomy will depend a lot on the spread of the cancer, and the type of mastectomy that will be performed. The chemotherapy is attempting to shrink and removed as much cancer as possible, and some of those cancerous areas are not within range of the mastectomy, which is where the chemo comes in.
